WALTER CARLOS with BENJAMIN FOLKMAN Switched-On Bach
(Mid to late 1970s UK issue of the 1968 10-track stereo LP on
the graduated orange CBS label, by the man [pre-Wendy!]
responsible for some of the haunting electronic music
interpretations behind '2001' & 'A Clockwork Orange', picture
sleeve. This first pressing has the original sleeve artwork with
the seated Bach image. Walter Carlos himself hated this
artwork, complaining that it was 'a clownish, trivializing image
of a muggingBach', supposedly hearing some absurd sound
from his earphones. The fact that these were plugged into the
input, not the output, of a 914 Filter module, which in turn was
also connected to nothing, assured that silence was all that
would have greeted Johann Sebastian's ears. Subsequent
pressings had a similar image but with a more serene looking
Bach standing in front of the synthesizer. The sleeve shows
just a little discolouration to the reverse, whilst the vinyl
looks seldom played)
