American music writer Paul Grein recently wrote: Before Beyoncé, Jennifer Lopez and Madonna were even born, and while Barbra Streisand was still in grade school, Doris Day set the standard for female multi-media entertainers. Besides the many transatlantic chart hits she recorded (picking up Grammy nominations along the way), Doris also found time to star in over 40 films (garnering a Best Actress nomination in 1959) and appear in hundreds of radio shows and numerous TV specials.
