VARIOUS The Philadelphia Story 1971-1986 (Limited Edition 1986 UK FOURTEEN LP Box Set on Streetsounds, housed in a robust 12" box with the original hype sticker attached & an exclusive & informative 16-page booklet. This stunning set providesa wonderful overview of one the all-time great record labels, conceived in the late '60s by Kenny Gamble & Leon Huff, two emerging songwriters/musicians, who realised that by taking control of their own publishing they could be every bit as successful as the major labels that dominated the charts in the early '70s. Each LP works chronologically showcasing the very best of the label's output & includes proto-Disco classics from house band MFSB, deep Soul that addressed the volatile political climate of the US in the '70s; Backstabbers, For The Love Of Money [The O'Jays], alongside the feel-good soul/pop that sold millions worldwide; The Love I Lost [Harold Melvin & The Bluenotes], Me & Mrs Jones [Billy Paul], Love TKO [Teddy Pendergrass], Ain't No Stoppin' Us Now [McFadden & Whitehead], most importantly all tracks [where applicable] are full-length versions rather than the short single edits that are more commonly found on Philadelphia International compilations, so you can hear these incredible songs exactly as they were meant to be heard.
